When The Jackson Group was hired by the Center for Voter Education in North Carolina, the group had only been operational for a couple of weeks. The Center was organized to educate the public and elected officials for the immediate need of comprehensive campaign finance reform for state elections in North Carolina.

The Center's mission: educate citizens on the issue of campaign reform in order to make it an "important issue" in the minds of members of the General Assembly. The CVE knew it needed to influence public opinion statewide in order to achieve its mission -- but it was at a loss about how to get there.

The Jackson Group was brought in to develop and implement a communications strategy that would utilize both paid and earned media tactics. TJG's solution to getting campaign finance reform on the public's mind was a three pronged media campaign consisting of public service announcements, paid television commercials and video news releases.

The Center's efforts were successful and compelled the North Carolina Legislature to take action. For the first time, the Legislature held substantial debate on publicly funded campaigns on the floors of the General Assembly, and passed a pilot project to fund statewide judicial elections.

In a year and a half the North Carolina Center for Voter Education went from obscurity to establishing itself as a leader in the campaign finance reform crusade.

The Center's efforts sparked real results in the halls of government -- and we were there every step of the way.
